ALEX Neil expects Saturday’s opponents Norwich City to be in the play-off race this season. The Canaries finished ninth last season, eight points outside the play-offs, although their form improved significantly under Philippe Clement, who was appointed in November 2025. Over the summer, they signed winger Andre Brooks from Sheffield United for a reported fee of £8 million, as well as left-back Darlin Yongwa on a free transfer, and centre-back Bruno Alves and winger Anthony Musaba on loan. They also made midfielder Sam Field’s loan permanent. They kicked off their Championship campaign with a 2-1 loss to West Bromwich Albion last Saturday, although Baggies striker Aune Heggebo appeared to score the opener with his arm. Neil expects a stern test when Norwich visit The Den. “They’re a good side,” Neil said. “They’ve got a good coach. “They spent a lot of money putting together and assembling that squad, so I think they would expect themselves to be right up there, and I think they will be. “They lost at the weekend at West Brom. I don’t think there was much in the game. “We know they’re going to be a good side; it’s one of them ones where I’d anticipate that they’ll certainly be vying for the top eight, if not a bit better.” Saturday’s clash will be the first competitive match at The Den since the Lions’ play-off defeat to Hull City three months ago. “We’ve started the season well,” Neil said. “We’ve managed to get through the first round of the cup. We’ve managed to beat Bristol, which I think gave everybody a little bit of confidence and belief. “This will be a really tough test for us, so we’re well set up at the moment for the game.”
