Camilo Duran was the star of the show as Celtic secured a 3-0 win over LASK in the Champions League play-off first leg. Duran was at the double in Glasgow’s east end as he announced himself on the European stage. He is no stranger to these occasions, having scored five for Qarabag last season, but the Celtic support now know exactly what he can bring. Benjamin Nygren opened the scoring after a well-worked team goal was capped off with a tremendous finish. It’s four goals in four for the Swede as he maintains his stellar start to the campaign. Duran added his second and Celtic’s third: a one-two with Nygren allowed him to slot the ball into the top corner and cap off a tremendous display. The second-half was as stylish a performance as we have seen from Celtic on this stage in a while. Some brilliant build-up play from Viljami Sinisalo allowed the team to get the ball up the pitch quickly; a special mention to Colby Donovan and Kasper Hogh’s contribution to that goal in particular. Speaking after the match, Duran gave his reaction to his goals, but insisted the job is far from done. He said (Celtic Player): “It was a very beautiful night. I’m glad that we got the result, however we’ve still got a game to play for so we need to work hard. “I’m very happy about scoring the goals, especially at this stadium. It was very beautiful. “We need to do what we did tonight. We just need to play a very good game so that we can pass to the next stage.” The 24-year-old now has four competitive goals in green and white. Although naturally a striker, he has shown his ability to perform out on the right wing, cutting in on his favoured left foot. Three goals in as many pre-season matches gave supporters a glimpse of what is to come. A brilliant performance and goal against Dundee United was followed up with European heroics; hopefully that’s the first of many. The Hoops don’t have a domestic match this weekend, having taken up the option to postpone their Premiership match against St Johnstone to prepare for the second leg against LASK on Tuesday. It allows Martin O’Neill to focus fully on getting his side ready as they look to qualify for the Champions League proper.
