ISKANDAR PUTERI, Aug 20 (Bernama) -- Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) are on the brink of football history as they prepare to defend their Charity Shield title against Kuching City FC tomorrow, a match that could see the Southern Tigers set a new world record for the longest unbeaten league run. JDT head coach Xisco Munoz said while securing another trophy remains the primary target, the prospect of entering the global history books serves as a significant milestone for the club and its supporters. "Tomorrow is an important day for us. First, we want to win the trophy, and second, we want to enter the history books of world football. "It is incredible to arrive at this level, and our players will give 100 per cent to take another step forward," he said during a pre-match press conference at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium, here today. Addressing concerns over Kuching City’s tactical setup, Munoz acknowledged that the opposition presents a formidable challenge, particularly with their physical strength and swift offensive transitions. "They are defensively well-structured and highly dangerous on the counter-attack. We must maintain our concentration and stay fully focused,” he said. When asked about the five JDT players on loan to Kuching City FC, he said those players would be capable of putting up a strong fight against his team if they were fielded. Meanwhile, Kuching City FC head coach Aidil Sharin Sahak stressed that his team is not intimidated and is strictly focusing on their own game. "About their record, we don't think about that because we want to focus on our side, and tomorrow we will try to play to win by putting in a lot of hard work, team spirit, and giving 100 per cent on the pitch," he said. However, Aidil Sharin refrained from revealing whether the five loan players from JDT would be fielded in the match. He stated that the team will focus on selecting the best available lineup that is fully prepared to overcome the Southern Tigers. The Southern Tigers, unbeaten in the league since 2021, stand on the brink of a new world record if they secure a win or a draw against Kuching City FC tomorrow. JDT equal Ivory Coast club ASEC Mimosas world record of 108 unbeaten league matches, after a stunning 14-1 win over Kelantan TRW in the Super League in May. --BERNAMA BERNAMA provides up-to-date authentic and comprehensive news and information which are disseminated via BERNAMA Wires; www.bernama.com; BERNAMA TV on Astro 502, unifi TV 631 and MYTV 121 channels and BERNAMA Radio on FM93.9 (Klang Valley), FM107.5 (Johor Bahru), FM107.9 (Kota Kinabalu) and FM100.9 (Kuching) frequencies.
