Wrexham make Leeds United star a surprise transfer priority

Leeds United confirmed the departure of Joel Piroe on Wednesday. The striker joined West Ham on loan with an obligation to buy if the Hammers earn promotion to the Premier League this season.
Piroe’s departure has opened up the opportunity for Leeds to bring in an upgrade and improve their forward line with the addition of another striker.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored 14 Premier League goals last season, but Leeds cannot afford to gamble on the forward staying fit for another full campaign, given his injury history.
Leeds are in the market for a striker, but they could now lose one more forward before the end of the transfer window due to interest from the Championship.

Wrexham plot ambitious swoop for Leeds United star
The Championship had an interest in Joel Gelhardt before he agreed to return to Hull City from Leeds on a permanent deal last week.
Wrexham are eyeing another ambitious raid on Leeds before the transfer window ends as they push to improve their squad in the next couple of weeks.
According to the Daily Mail, Wrexham are interested in securing a deal to sign Leeds striker Lukas Nmecha before the end of the transfer window.
Leeds signed Nmecha last summer on a free transfer, and he scored seven goals in 37 appearances for the club.
However, the forward is behind Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the pecking order and could become third-choice if Leeds sign another striker.
Wrexham are interested in snaring him away from Elland Road with the promise of him being their main man up front in the Championship this season.
It remains to be seen whether Nmecha is prepared to walk away from Premier League football to be a starting eleven player in the second tier.
Leeds cannot let Lukas Nmecha leave
The Whites already need one more striker to improve their squad, with Joel Piroe’s departure long part of the plan this summer.
However, letting Nmecha leave will seriously weaken the squad, even if Leeds sign a striker before the end of the transfer window.
The 27-year-old is a good player to have on the bench, and his physicality allows Daniel Farke to keep playing a consistent style of football.
If the forward leaves Leeds before the end of the window, it could seriously impact the season and force Leeds to look for two strikers in the final days of the summer.
The club still have a lot to do in the final weeks of the window, and finding a replacement for Nemcha is something they could do without.
