Chelsea have reportedly put young defender Mamadou Sarr up for sale according to transfer reporter Sacha Tavolieri. The Blues brought him to Stamford Bridge in January, but he has not lived up to expectations. Chelsea were dealing with defensive issues, and former manager Enzo Maresca called for centre-backs, but the sporting hierarchy did not listen. They had signed Sarr from French side Strasbourg for £12 million in June on an eight-year deal, leaving him on loan, and didn’t want to spend any more in that position. Sarr has not moved the needle. He is weak in the air and has failed to grasp the pace of the Premier League. Their is talk of interest from Real Sociedad or a Premier League loan, but it appears Chelsea now want to sell permanently. Al-Hilal are showing interest. New Chelsea boss Xabi Alonso will head into the season with Levi Colwill, Maxence Lacroix, Wesley Fofana, Jorrel Hato and Josh Acheampong as his centre-backs. Following Trevoh Chalobah’s departure, Benoit Badiashile and Axel Disasi are heading out on loan. Aaron Anselmino will likely join them. Tosin Adarabioyo is attracting transfer interest from the Premier League and La Liga. Chelsea must use the final few weeks of the transfer window to streamline the squad rather than making new signings. They also need to do everything within their power to hold on to midfielder Enzo Fernandez, as he cannot be replaced this summer. If they get it right, perhaps Chelsea can finally compete for top honours again.
