The Director General of the Afghanistan National Olympic and Physical Education and Sports Directorate, Mawlavi Ahmadullah Wasiq, met with Yatin Patel, Chargé d’Affaires of India in Kabul, to discuss bilateral relations and cooperation in the field of sports.
Representatives from Afghanistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs also attended the meeting, where both sides exchanged views on the current state of sports relations between Afghanistan and India and explored ways to further strengthen cooperation.
During the meeting, the two sides emphasized the importance of expanding sporting ties and expressed their commitment to making efforts to develop relations in this area. They also highlighted the potential for greater cooperation through sports activities, exchanges and participation in international competitions.
The meeting comes after recent remarks by India’s External Affairs Minister, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, who said that India would continue to cooperate with Afghanistan in various fields.
Afghanistan and India have maintained sports-related contacts in several areas, with Afghan athletes and teams participating in competitions and training programs in India over the years.
Officials said continued engagement could help create further opportunities for athletes and strengthen people-to-people ties between the two countries through sports. The Kabul Times
