In training camp, Vea was holding out in hopes of resolving his contract issues. When the defensive tackle requested a trade, Tampa Bay remained adamant that they weren’t interested in moving him. After playing in 2022 on a fifth-year option, Vea was set to play in 2026, the last year of a four-year, $71 million extension. Jason Licht, the Buccaneers’ general manager, released a statement regarding the extension. “Vita is exactly the type of player and person we want to build around in Tampa Bay. As one of our team leaders, Vita has played a big role in establishing that winning culture, and we are excited to have him continuing to help lead the way as we pursue our next championship.” He is now contracted to Tampa Bay through 2027. Vea was drafted 12th overall by Tampa Bay in 2018. His consistency has led him to become one of the best defensive tackles in the league. His frame was one of his strongest assets. With his 6-foot-4 frame and 347 pounds, Vea clogs up the middle of the defensive line. The Buccaneers started him in all 17 games last season. In total, he recorded 34 tackles, including 4.5 sacks. In each of the last four seasons, See has had at least 4.5 sacks. His career-high was seven sacks on 42 total tackles in 2024.
