It is safe to say that Newcastle United have not had a great time in the ongoing summer transfer window. There are so many players they have been linked with and at times tried to sign, only for them to prefer other destinations. It looks like we could see that play out once again. And this time around, it is a midfielder who prefers a move to Old Trafford over going to St James’ Park. Recently, Newcastle United have been linked with Nico Gonzalez of Manchester City. But he is not the only Premier League midfielder the Magpies have been keeping an eye on this summer. Newcastle United-linked midfielder only wants Man Utd move Earlier, reports had suggested that Newcastle United were monitoring a move for Carlos Baleba of Brighton & Hove Albion. But it looks like Man Utd is the midfielder’s only viable destination, if he does change clubs this summer. According to Fabrizio Romano, Baleba has made it clear to his camp that his only dream since August of 2025 has been Manchester United. Baleba agreed personal terms with the Old Trafford club one year ago but Brighton & Hove Albion closed the door. Now, negotiations are in the final phases. The previous agreement with the player remains valid, as he only wants Manchester United. So, if everything goes as expected, Baleba will be a Manchester United player very soon. As for Newcastle, they have missed out on another one of their midfield targets this summer. Baleba to Newcastle United is not happening It is not hard to see why someone like Baleba would have caught the eye of Newcastle United. But it has been made quite clear that he has his eyes set on Old Trafford as his next destination. So, the Magpies need to move their sights elsewhere. For the time being, it looks like it is on Gonzalez. It remains to be seen if they end up having any better luck there. With Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali both leaving in this window, Newcastle United badly need to strengthen their midfield this summer. So far, they simply have not been able to do that. Sean Steur has been brought in from Ajax. Aladji Bamba has arrived from AS Monaco. But both of them have a combined 50 senior games under their belts. For a team that finished 12th last season with Tonali and Guimaraes, it is safe to say that they should be aiming for a lot more experience and proven quality.
