Dallas Wings guard Azzi Fudd has released a statement following the news of her season-ending injury. Fudd spoke about her knee injury on her Fudd Around and Find Out podcast, which will require an arthroscopic procedure.
“Hey,
Most of you probably already saw. I've got a small procedure coming up on my knee, and I'll be out as I recover.
I know exactly what comes next: rehab, put in the work, come back ready and better than before. Grateful for my family, my circle, and the Wings organization for the support.
Thank you for all the messages today. They mean a lot to me.”
While news of Fudd's season-ending procedure spread across the sports world on Wednesday, the 2026 No. 1 pick has been out of action since August 5. She has dealt with right knee soreness that has caused her to miss several recent games for the Wings, leading to the procedure.
In 30 games for the Wings this season, Fudd is averaging 13.1 points, 1.8 assists, 1.7 rebounds, and 1.7 steals while shooting 45.6% from the field and 39.7% from three-point range. Fudd also made history, becoming the first rookie in WNBA history to win the three-point contest. Her ability as a scorer has opened up the possibilities for a Dallas Wings team that found itself outside of the playoff mix last season.
Now the Wings look to head into the WNBA playoffs in September without their star rookie. The Wings are the eighth-best team in the WNBA, holding on to a five-game edge in the win column over the Portland Fire for the final spot in the WNBA playoff field.
