The Boston Red Sox are still waiting on an answer on when shortstop Trevor Story will return. Story, a former All-Star, has a real opportunity to come back and help this team on both sides of the baseball.
He's a plus defender, has proven in Boston that he can get going when he’s healthy, and is expected to really help this team.
The Red Sox hope Story will be back soon, perhaps as early as this weekend against the San Francisco Giants.
Speaking to reporters about when he thinks he can return, Story made it seem like he could be back after Thursday's day off.
“At least Tuesday and Wednesday I’ll be in Syracuse, then we’ll see how I feel after that,” Story said at Fenway Park, per Chris Cotillo of MassLive. “Obviously, Thursday’s an off day here, so we’ll see how it goes."
Some Red Sox fans have suggested that they don't want him to return because he might mess up some of the chemistry Boston has built.
While that's always something that gets mentioned in situations like this when a player has been out for as long as Story has, it's important to remember the type of player he is.
We're not talking about a below-average big-league player, as Story is somebody who can genuinely swing a playoff series.
