Xabi Alonso’s team have been active this summer, signing Morgan Rogers and Maxence Lacroix among others to strengthen his squad at Stamford Bridge.

Osborne moves to Stamford Bridge, agreeing a deal until 2030. The youngster impressed for Hearts and was reportedly sought-after by a number of teams across Europe. In Scotland, he won the Hearts B team’s Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year awards for 2025/26.
Originally a midfielder, Osborne switched to centre-back last season. He enjoyed great success in his new role, captaining Hearts’ Under-18s side to glory in the Scottish FA Youth Cup final. He has also represented Scotland at youth level, including captaining the Under-19s in the qualifying for the UEFA European Championship.
The Last Word as Alfie Osborne Joins Chelsea
Chelsea’s transfer strategy has clearly shifted this summer, with more experienced players joining, such as Danny Welbeck and Jordan Henderson. However, the future cannot be neglected, and the Stamford Bridge club are clearly still in the market for the next generation.
Osborne is accomplished in possession but also has the stature to deal with the physicality of some games. After he began his career in midfield, it should be of no surprise that he is an impressive passer.

This is a huge move for Osborne, and Alonso was keen to look at many young players during preseason, and it appears he is keen to integrate the younger players where possible. Osborne is a big talent, and a move to Stamford Bridge should help his development in the future, no matter where he ends up playing regular first-team football.
Reports surfaced in the media on August 19 that Chelsea have a group of up to 12 players training away from the first team. A number of players in this group look destined for the Stamford Bridge exit doors, including Liam Delap and Tosin Adarabioyo.
Stamford Bridge looks set to see plenty of outgoings from now until deadline day on September 1, but Osborne looks like he has plenty about him to have a big future.
