Tempers Boil Over at Vikings vs Ravens Joint Practices
The Minnesota Vikings hosted the Baltimore Ravens for the first of two joint practices this week at TCO Performance Center in Eagan, before the two teams play a preseason game at US Bank Stadium on Saturday.
From all accounts, both first team offenses rode the struggle bus for most of the day. There was a lot of grabbiness from defensive backs, few of which were called for penalties. At one point, after Kyler Murray and Justin Jefferson had failed to connect at all, according to Emily Leiker (Star Tribune).
Justin Jefferson, Kyler Murray struggle to connect vs Ravens
After missing him for at least the fourth time in a row, Minnesota’s superstar reportedly wideout took umbrage with the referee watching over the rep. Of course, you can only hold Jettas down for so long, no matter how much you (literally) hold him.
Vikings star wide receiver Justin Jefferson seems frustrated. He and Kyler Murray haven’t been able to connect at all, despite Jefferson getting at least four targets.
After Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey just broke a pass up, Jefferson was talking to the ref, his arms flared out at his sides seemingly looking for a call — not for the first time today. Jefferson lingered near the Ravens sideline as the rest of the Vikings starters went back to theirs.

It wasn’t just the Minnesota Vikings offense that struggled. There were a ton of Baltimore Ravens reporters out in Eagan today too. There were some highlight plays from both offenses, but from all accounts, neither moved the ball very well against two of the top defenses in the league.
Brian Flores wasn’t holding back, as he repeatedly sent extra pass rushers at former MVP Lamar Jackson, though it was noted how nice of a day former Gopher wide receiver Rashod Bateman had in front of his old head coach, PJ Fleck.
Tempers flare during Vikings vs Ravens joint practices
And frustrations boiled over a couple of times. It was no Saints vs Cowboys Royal Rumble, but there was at least one punch thrown during a special teams drill, by Ravens cornerback Keyon Martin, after he and Vikings cornerback Da’Veawn Armstead “got tangled up.”
According to Andrew Krammer (Star Tribune), Martin was allowed to remain on the field and continued doing drills after the incident. As you can see in the second clip below, however, that wasn’t the only time that tempers flared up.
There are two No. 40s listed on the Vikings roster, after the signing of Bryce Phillips earlier this week. Whether that’s him or WR Terril Davis… whatever Keondre Jackson did during this rep should be felonious in all 50 states.
We’ve got a punch thrown. Ravens CB Keyon Martin and Vikings CB Da’Veawn Armstead got tangled up during a heated special teams drill in which Armstead was previously thrown to the ground by a different Ravens defender.

Eventually, cooler heads prevailed and there were no major meles that broke out during the Vikings vs Ravens’ first joint practice session. So, I guess we will see what tomorrow brings.
