The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have released receiver Shemar Bridges and defensive lineman Tyjuan Garbutt, the team announced on Wednesday.
Bridges had yet to dress for a regular-season game in 2026, serving stints on the six and one-game injured lists.
The six-foot-four, 208-pound target had a strong rookie year in 2024 when he made 83 catches for 933 yards and four touchdowns over 15 regular-season games. He was named All-East Division and the East Division’s nominee for Most Outstanding Rookie.

The 28-year-old played all 18 regular-season games with the Tiger-Cats in 2025, though he made only 34 receptions for 361 yards.
The native of Jacksonville, Fla. spent the 2022 season on the practice roster with the Baltimore Ravens. He played collegiately at Fort Valley State University, an NCAA Division II program located in Georgia.
Garbutt had also yet to make his 2026 debut, having spent Hamilton’s first 10 games on injured reserve.
The 27-year-old signed with the team as a free agent in 2025, making nine defensive tackles, one sack, and one forced fumble over six regular-season games.
The six-foot-two, 255-pound defender spent the first two years of his CFL career with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, tallying 20 defensive tackles, three sacks, one forced fumble, and one touchdown over 13 regular-season games.
Garbutt played collegiately at Virginia Tech, where he made 121 tackles, 29 tackles for loss, 12 sacks, four forced fumbles, two pass knockdowns, and two fumble recoveries over 49 games.
The Hamilton Tiger-Cats (4-6) will visit the Toronto Argonauts (4-5) at BMO Field on Saturday, August 22 with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m. EDT. The Tiger-Cats are coming off a 26-19 upset win over the Saskatchewan Roughriders, while the Argonauts got blown out by the Edmonton Elks by a score of 42-12.
