The injury bug struck again, and this time, to a Houston Texans starting wide receiver. Jayden Higgins, who was entering the 2026 season as the No. 2 option behind Nico Collins, suffered a torn ACL in training camp, according to ESPN NFL analyst Ian Rapoport. Higgins was entering his second season in the NFL, after being selected in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft by Houston. MORE: Chargers’ center Tyler Biadasz out indefinitely with knee injury In his first season with the team, Higgins caught 41 passes for 525 yards and six touchdowns. He was third on the team a year ago in receiving, behind both Collins and tight end Dalton Schultz. The 6-foot-4 playmaker was a big-bodied wide receiver who C.J. Stroud was able to trust in jump-ball situations, and he was also a primary red-zone threat. Higgins will now start the rehab process and look toward the 2027 season. Growing concerns in Houston The Texans already had a young wide receiver corps heading into the new year, with Nico Collins being the veteran of the group. Higgins is out for the season, and fellow Iowa State alum Jaylin Noel has been hit by the injury bug. Noel has dealt with a hurt finger and hamstring and could miss a few weeks, but the Texans are hopeful he can return for Week 1 of the regular season. Houston is going to rely heavily on Xavier Hutchinson, coincidentally another Iowa State alum. The former sixth-round pick in 2023 had a career season a year ago for the Texans. He caught 35 passes for 428 yards and three scores. The Texans are also hopeful they can get Tank Dell back at some point this season after he suffered a serious knee injury in 2024, making him miss all of 2025. Dell caught 51 passes for 667 yards and three scores in 2024 before going down with the injury. — Enjoy free coverage of the top news & trending stories with The Big Lead Newsletter —
