Los Angeles Chargers center Tyler Biadasz suffered an injury during a joint practice with the San Francisco 49ers on Tuesday, Aug. 18. On Wednesday morning, it was announced that the team’s new center would be “out indefinitely after suffering damage to his ACL and additional injuries to his left knee,” according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Biadasz previously played for the Washington Commanders and Dallas Cowboys, where he was a Pro Bowler in 2022. He signed a three-year, $30 million deal with the Chargers during the offseason. Biadasz was expected to be a major upgrade. He was replacing Bradley Bozeman, who anchored the Chargers’ line the last two seasons, starting 33 of 34 regular season games and both of their playoff losses. Bozeman retired following the 2025 season. Now the Chargers will have to turn to second-round pick Jake Slaughter. The rookie was an All-SEC and All-American selection at Florida and was fighting for the starting spot at left guard during training camp. This year, they’ve lost their starting center. Last year, it was their left tackle. Rashawn Slater, a two-time Pro Bowler, signed a four-year, $114 million extension last summer. Less than two weeks later he tore his patellar tendon during training camp. Joe Alt, the team’s other tackle, then missed nine games and ended the season on injured reserve. Thus, Justin Herbert was sacked a career-high 54 times last year in 16 games during the regular season. Then he was sacked six times in a wild card loss to the New England Patriots. And on top of that, Trey Lance was sacked four times in his start in Week 17.
