New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara has reportedly received a prognosis on the injury that caused him to leave early from the team’s feisty joint practice on Tuesday with the Dallas Cowboys in Oxnard, California. The 31-year-old star suffered a sprained MCL, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, and is expected to be out for at least a month. The injury means the Saints will likely have to lean on running back Travis Etienne, new to the team after signing in the offseason for four years and $52 million, for the time being. Kamara’s status with the team was in flux for much of the offseason after Etienne’s signing, with head coach Kellen Moore declining to indicate on several occasions whether Kamara’s contract would be reworked or if he’d be with the team in 2026. Ultimately, Kamara agreed to a restructured contract, which reportedly paid him a base $6 million salary with a chance to earn $8.5 million with incentives. Kamara’s injury marks the Saints’ second key offensive contributor who’ll be out for an extended period after rookie wide receiver Jordyn Tyson sustained a hamstring injury that will keep him sidelined for the start of the season. Running back has also been one of the team’s most contentious training camp battles, with the Saints having a stable of backs who are battling for a few spots. Kendre Miller and Devin Neal both returned to practice Tuesday after sitting out for a few weeks each with injuries, while Audric Estime, who scored a touchdown in Saturday’s preseason game, is still out with an ankle injury.
