This coming Thursday, Harbaugh and his Chargers will take on his former team, the San Francisco 49ers, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood. The 62-year-old Harbaugh sounded excited about that matchup, particularly because it will give him an opportunity to meet Niners quarterback Brock Purdy. “I want to shake his hand. Hopefully Kyle [Shanahan] will introduce me to him … [I appreciate] how good he is. His timing, his decision-making, his accuracy. I just like how cool he is, how cool he plays,” Harbaugh told reporters on Tuesday, via David Lombardi of The San Francisco Standard. Purdy has been quite an interesting NFL story. He was the last player selected in the 2022 NFL Draft, but he took full advantage of every break and opportunity he got before becoming the 49ers’ regular starting quarterback. In 2025, the former Iowa State Cyclones star secured the bag with a massive five-year, $265 million contract extension with San Francisco. Chargers Can Stay Undefeated in 2026 NFL Preseason in Week 2 Clash Against San Francisco Los Angeles will look to gain more momentum heading into the new NFL season when the Bolts square off against the 49ers in a Week 2 preseason showdown against the Niners. While winning preseason games isn’t exactly an important goal for NFL teams, these contests help starters shed offseason rust and get ready for games that matter more. The Chargers will conclude their preseason in Week 3 against the Los Angeles Rams on Aug. 27.
