Manchester United and Brighton & Hove Albion are closing in on a deal for midfielder Carlos Baleba, according to renowned journalist David Ornstein. The Red Devils have submitted an offer of around £60 million plus £5m in add-ons. Brighton would ideally like a higher fee for the 22-year-old, particularly given the inflated nature of the current transfer market. It was also revealed that amicable talks continue with all parties working towards finding an agreement. The Red Devils have already bolstered their midfield with the arrivals of Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos, but they remain determined to add one final piece to complete their midfield overhaul. Baleba would be a sensational acquisition for United, particularly if the club can secure his signature for a fee of around £70m. Santos, Tielemans and Kobbie Mainoo all offer excellent technical ability and are at their best when dictating play in possession. Baleba would bring something entirely different to the midfield. The Cameroon international is a physically imposing presence who combines power with an impressive ability to win tackles and disrupt opposition attacks. He is currently injured and is a doubt for the start of the 2026-27 campaign. However, if Baleba can make a swift return, signing him should be a no-brainer for United given the qualities he would add to the squad. The Red Devils agreed personal terms with Baleba last summer, only for Brighton to make it clear that they had no intention of selling their prized midfielder. Now, the situation appears to have changed, and United are pushing hard to finally land their man. Stats from Fotmob.com
