Brackley Town unveil two new midfield signings - one was recently released by Aston Villa Andy Whing has added to his squad just in time for the start of the new season, securing the permanent transfers of two midfielders. Featuring as triallists in Brackley Town’s recent 1-0 friendly victory over Maidenhead United, Kai Lissimore and I-Lani Edwards have earned deals with the Saints. Lissimore, a central midfielder who played out of position at right-back in the win at St James Park last weekend, signs in following his departure from Alfreton Town. Before that, Lissimore turned out for the likes of Tamworth and Kidderminster Harriers, where he gained some experience in the National League. The 22-year-old benefited from more game time than he perhaps bargained for when Brackley’s regular right-back - Kieran Coates - went off injured last time out. Lissimore went on to assist DJ Sturridge’s winner with a terrific cross from the right flank and he did a tidy job defensively, proving to Whing he can succeed in several positions. He also impressed with his work rate in another match, as well as in training sessions. After putting pen to paper, Lissimore said: “I bring a lot of energy and hard work. Then, on the ball, I like to create things and make opportunities happen. “Alongside the management and the other lads in there, we want to do the best we can and ultimately get promoted. “For me personally, after some injuries (at the start of other seasons), I want to really get back into things and get some wins under my belt.” Edwards, meanwhile, came on as a second-half substitute in the triumph over Maidenhead and he featured in all other previous friendly outings, barring the Cardiff Met game. The 20-year-old, a physical, box-to-box type, came through the academy at Aston Villa before his release at the end of June. Edwards played 26 times for Villa’s under-18 side before being promoted to the under-21 team and featuring on eight occasions. Last season, Edwards went out on loan to Hereford and made 17 appearances in the National League North, scoring one goal. Edwards said: “I’m an attacking-minded player, I play on the wings and in midfield and like to carry the ball. I like flair and I like trying things.” Lissimore and Edwards are not the only arrivals this Friday, with two more players arriving on loan.
