A total of 56 crews have entered the gravel rally in Chile. Ten cars will compete in the top-level Rally1 category.
As we reported earlier, Esapekka Lappi will drive Hyundai’s third Rally1 car in Chile. He will compete alongside Hyundai’s full-season drivers Adrien Fourmaux and Thierry Neuville.
Toyota will once again field five drivers, as it will at every remaining round of the season. The Toyota quintet – Elfyn Evans, Sami Pajari, Takamoto Katsuta, Oliver Solberg and Sebastien Ogier – currently occupies the top five positions in the WRC standings.
M-Sport Ford will field its familiar Irish pairing of Josh McErlean and Jon Armstrong.
The WRC2 category boasts a strong field in Chile. Estonian star Robert Virves, who has dominated the category this year, will face competition from the likes of Spain’s Alejandro Cachon, Lancia drivers Yohan Rossel and Nikolay Gryazin, and British driver Gus Greensmith.
Local brothers Alberto and Pedro Heller will also be looking to fight at the front of WRC2, along with Paraguayan rally prospects Fabrizio Zaldivar and Diego Dominguez.
The Junior WRC title will be decided in Chile. Sweden’s Calle Carlberg and Turkey’s Ali Türkkan are the leading contenders for the coveted title, with just three points separating them at the top of the JWRC standings.
The next round of the World Rally Championship takes place in Paraguay next week. Rally Chile follows two weeks later from 10–13 September.
Toyota star Ogier celebrated victory in Chile last year.
