ERNE Boxing Club head coach Sean Crowley is currently on international duty with the Ireland U19 team at the European Championships in Serbia. The Fermanagh coach has travelled with the national squad as part of the coaching team, continuing a busy period at international level for the founder of the Lisnaskea-based club. Crowley has been heavily involved in ensuring the young Irish boxers are fully prepared for the championships, with organisation and preparation key to their campaign. He has been a familiar face around the national setup, having served as Ireland’s Anti-Doping Officer at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 before moving into a role with the High Performance Unit. His latest assignment with the U19 squad represents another important opportunity to work with the next generation of Irish boxing talent. Helping the next generation Crowley’s role extends well beyond the corner, with responsibility for the practical arrangements surrounding the team’s training and competition programme. “If I get boxers to competitions and into comfortable accommodation with training facilities, I’ve done my bit and that’s one less thing that the coaches and boxers have to worry about,” he said. The Erne Boxing Club founder has also stressed the importance of the grassroots game in producing the next generation of international boxers. “The clubs up and down the country do an absolute phenomenal job,” he said, pointing to the pathway that saw Enniskillen boxer Rhys Owens spend time with the High Performance Unit. Crowley’s own club has played a significant role in developing young talent since he established Erne Boxing Club in 2008. Now, with another generation of Irish boxers competing on the European stage, Crowley is delighted to be part of their journey.
