On the August 11, 2026 episode of NXT, a lot of things happened regarding the NXT Championship. The current champion, Tony D’Angelo, didn’t have an opponent for the next PLE Heatwave on August 30. It was announced that Cruz Montana and Grayson Waller would face off in a number one contender’s match for the chance to face D’Angelo at Heatwave. Montana arrived after D’Angelo’s intense Street Fight against Naraku. Waller returned to the brand and immediately started insulting the men’s division, getting the attention of the champion. What looked like a good match got derailed by a new wrestler debuting at the end. That wrestler was Zilla Fatu, the son of the late Umaga and part of the Anoa’i wrestling family. He attacked both Montana and Waller, making the match a no-contest for both of them. On the August 18 NXT, it was announced that him and Montana would face off against each other in his first match. Would the match happen or would D’Angelo and Waller ruin it for them? Fatal Four-Way NXT Championship Match Made Official for Heatwave So far, D’Angelo has had a great run as champion. After winning the title at Stand & Deliver, he has retained against Ethan Page, Kam Hendrix, and Naraku twice on NXT television. He also had a confrontation with Mason Rook and a non-title match with Tavion Heights over the past couple of months. Now even more wrestlers have come looking for the title. Montana, Waller, and Zilla all have directly called him out over the last couple of weeks. Fans were wondering what Zilla’s attack would mean for his match at Heatwave. Luckily, the situation was resolved in a fair manner for everyone involved. With his match against Zilla announced, Montana came to the ring to call him out. That’s exactly what he did, saying that he would be the number one contender if the attack didn’t happen. He was then interrupted with the message that Fatu wasn’t at the arena. AAA Cruiserweight Champion Rey Fenix then came out, reminding him of their past on the independent circuit and in AAA and TNA. They complimented each other before he went off to find Zilla. Later on, Waller came out and called out Zilla as well for interrupting last week’s match. D’Angelo arrived to confront him, but barely got in the ring before Montana returned. He suggested a second match between him and Waller, then a beating of both D’Angelo and Zilla. But before anything else could happen, NXT General Manager Robert Stone arrived. He decided on a triple threat match between D’Angelo, Montana, and Waller at Heatwave. But that wasn’t the only business Stone had to handle. At the end of the show, Zilla finally arrived to sign his NXT contract. As he was making his entrance, D’Angelo arrived to watch. Zilla stared at him before addressing the crowd. They chanted his name as they waited for him to talk. He was very grateful about the opportunity to sign with NXT as they chanted the name of Umaga. Then he said he’ll let his talent do the talking instead of relying on his family name. Waller then ran back out surrounded by security guards, wanting to get at him. Montana reappeared as well in the crowd with more security guards. With D’Angelo entering the ring area and with Montana and Waller getting closer, Stone made an announcement. Zilla’s contract stated that his first ever NXT match would be a title match. He then changed the triple threat match into a fatal four-way match at Heatwave before having him sign. The four men then started yelling as the match was confirmed. No matter what happens, the next NXT Championship match will be filled with lots of action and intense competition between four bitter rivals.
