Christian Norgaard believes Everton have the raw materials to become one of the Premier League’s most dangerous set-piece sides, pointing to lessons learned from Brentford’s renowned dead-ball setup.
Speaking at a Men in Blazers live event with Roger Bennett at the Hill Dickinson, the Danish midfielder singled out the physical profile already in David Moyes’s squad.
“Being at a club like Brentford, where they worked so intensely on set-pieces, made me learn a lot,” Norgaard said.
“Hopefully I can bring this to Everton because there is so much height and so much size in the team. I don’t see why Everton should not be one of the best teams in the league when it comes to set-pieces.”
Brentford built their reputation under Thomas Frank on treating corners and free-kicks as a genuine tactical advantage rather than an afterthought, as many teams did.
Norgaard, who made close to 200 appearances for the Bees before a brief spell at Arsenal, was part of that setup before his £7m move to Everton earlier this month.
He remains sidelined by what the club has described as a minor issue, having missed Everton’s pre-season fixtures entirely.
“I have a small injury at the moment, but soon, hopefully, I’ll be ready, and I can’t wait to get out there for the first time,” he said, adding he was “getting very close” without giving a firm return date.
Norgaard was handed the number 23 shirt vacated by Seamus Coleman and is expected to anchor Moyes’s midfield once fit. His set-piece knowledge adds an extra layer of positivity to a summer arrival already earmarked as a starter.
