Manchester United have made no official contact with Barcelona regarding midfielder Marc Casado this summer, according to Spanish outlet Sport (page 10).
The Red Devils have already recruited two midfielders in Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans, but the club have not ruled out another signing in the department.
Casado has been linked with United on numerous occasions this summer, but as things stand, the Mancunian giants have not entered the race for him.
Sport claim that Benfica and Nottingham Forest are the likely destinations for the 22-year-old, who has already turned down a move to the Saudi Pro League.
United have been mentioned as suitors in the past, but Sport insist that no official contact has been made so far. Barcelona want to secure over £26 million for a sale.
Red Devils should consider move for Casado
United surprised many with the acquisitions of Santos and Tielemans. Santos arrived from Chelsea for £50m and has been one of the bright spots in pre-season.
Tielemans had one of his best campaigns at Aston Villa last term, followed by a good World Cup with Belgium. He was signed for an affordable £35m release clause.
Despite those arrivals, United need a specialist number six to provide cover, with Manuel Ugarte out injured long-term. Casado would be a quality signing, given his impressive ball control and passing skills.
Casado’s playing time was reduced last term, but he still managed around 1,400 minutes. He had a passing accuracy of 91 percent and exhibited a good work rate.
His ability to make progressive passes is a main strength. At £26m, he would represent a decent bargain signing, given he is only 22 and has plenty of room for progression.
United should consider an approach for the Spaniard, but we won’t be surprised if the club don’t make a move, given Casado’s height (171cm) remains a potential concern.
Casado has been sublime as a distributor from the number six role for the Blaugrana, but he tends to struggle aerially, which could see him exposed in the Premier League.
