Women's Soccer Opens Season with Draw Against Idaho - Western Michigan University Athletics

HONOLULU, Hawaii – The Western Michigan women's soccer team opened its season with a 1-1 draw against Idaho on Tuesday night. Camryn Huhn provided the lone goal for the Broncos. It was her first collegiate goal. Reagan Sulaver was strong in net, making four saves in the game. FIRST HALF Sualver made the first save of the game, turning away a shot from the Vandals in the sixth minute. From there, WMU would start to generate some offensive chances. Huhn and Meredith Vance had shots just miss the net. Gracie Lynn would eventually get the first shot on goal for the Brown and Gold. Her shot was stopped by the Idaho keeper, and the game remained tied 0-0. A little bit later, Idaho would find the back of the net to take a 1-0 lead. Sulaver would make a few more saves down the stretch, and the Broncos went to the half trailing by a score of 1-0. SECOND HALF Looking to equalize, the Broncos came out firing in the second half. Vance had a shot blocked in the early stages of the half, while Reese Lynn and Tessa Fagerson had looks saved. A little bit later, Huhn had her shot turned away to keep Idaho in the lead 1-0. The Brown and Gold kept fighting, getting another strong look from Drew Martin in the 69th minute. Her shot was saved by the Idaho goaltender. Western Michigan got a corner kick in the 73rd minute, which led to an Olivia Anderson shot that missed just wide of the net. Eventually, WMU's persistence would pay off, as Huhn found the back of the net in the 76th minute to tie the game at 1-1. Neither team could generate much offense down the stretch, and the game would be settled with a 1-1 tie. UP NEXT The Broncos will be back in action against Hawaii on Thursday. The two teams will hit the field at 10 PM ET on Mountain West Plus.
