The most successful Canadian in Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) history is looking to defend her title this week at Edmonton’s Royal Mayfair Golf Club. Brooke Henderson of Ottawa won the CPKC Canadian Women’s Open for the second time last year in Mississauga, Ont. The 28-year-old, who won her first major tournament 10 years ago, has racked up 14 LPGA wins over her career, the most by any Canuck female golfer. Her pair of Canadian Women’s Open victories is the most by a Canadian. Henderson told reporters on Tuesday that she’s “been able to use the energy and the atmosphere (from) all the fans” for support. “I feel like I’ve been able to use that to my advantage over the years,” said Henderson, who’s ranked No. 11 in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings heading into the four-day Open, which begins Thursday. Heading into Edmonton, she has scored four Top 10 finishes this season, including second place in July’s Amundi Evian Championship. Top-ranked women’s golfer Nelly Korda headlines the field that includes Top 10 contenders HyoJoo Kim, Miyu Yamashita, Ruoning Yin, Hannah Green and Minjee Lee. Korda, 27, has won four of the 12 tournaments in which she’s played in 2026. The 156-golfer field also includes the No. 12-ranked Lydia Ko, who won the Canadian Women’s Open the last time it was staged in Edmonton, also at the Royal Mayfair, in 2013. The 29-year-old from New Zealand also won the Open in 2012 and 2015. It’s the third time the Royal Mayfair has hosted the Canadian Women’s Open, all within the last 20 years. The prize purse for the four-round tournament, which began in 1973, is worth $2.75 million. With files from CTV News Edmonton’s Evan Kenny
