The Browns were in pads for Tuesday's practice at CrossCountry Mortgage Campus and head coach Todd Monken explained what he can see differently with them on compared to shells.
"Yesterday was really just shells," Monken said before practice. "When we put the pads on, we'll get nine on seven. Certainly, we've got to, irrespective of what we face defensively, be able to run the ball better. It starts there. You can't control the game. I think from a pass protection standpoint, when you've got the full pads on, you have a chance to really see where you're at. It's hard in shorts and spiders. So that's what it is, to me, it's really about the guys up front once you put the pads on."
With the pads on, the defensive line showcased a dominant practice up front while the secondary slowed down the passing game on the back end.
Here are three observations from Day 15 of training camp.
Quarterback rotation carries on
QB Deshaun Watson took all the first team reps during Tuesday's practice. QB Shedeur Sanders took the majority of second team work while QB Dillon Gabriel filled in during 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 periods.
Watson teamed up with TE Harold Fannin Jr. for a completion over the middle of the field during the first 11-on-11 period of practice. During a 7-on-7 period, Watson connected with WR Isaiah Bond on a deep pass near the left sideline for a touchdown.
Sanders dropped an over-the-shoulder throw to WR Gage Larvadain for a big gain near the right sideline during an 11-on-11 period. In another 11-on-11 portion of practice, Sanders found WR Luke Floriea over the middle of the field.
In an 11-on-11 period, Gabriel located TE Blake Whiteheart over the middle of the field for a short completion. Gabriel also found WR Tylan Wallace across the middle of the field during the Browns' second 7-on-7 portion of practice.
Secondary limits passing attack
The Browns' secondary continued their strong training camp performance on Day 15. S Emmanuel McNeil-Warren made a play to shut down a quick pass to WR Malachi Corley during an 11-on-11 period. CB Denzel Ward broke up a deep pass from Watson intended for Denzel Boston. Later in practice, during another 11-on-11 period, Ward made an acrobatic play to force the ball out on a short pass from Watson to Bond near the left sideline.
On a deep attempt from Gabriel intended for Corley during an 11-on-11 period, CB Jeadyn Lukus tipped the ball to force another incompletion.

Defensive line dominates on Day 15
Tuesday's practice was filled with good plays from the defensive line in 11-on-11 periods. During the first 11-on-11 period, DT Mike Hall Jr. — who returned to practice on Tuesday — quicky stuffed a handoff to RB Dylan Sampson in the backfield for a likely tackle for loss. DE Benton Whitley wrapped up a run by RB Raheim Sanders in the backfield for another likely tackle for loss during an 11-on-11 period. DE Jared Verse stopped a run on the right side by RB Quinshon Judkins in the final 11-on-11 period of practice.
The defensive line also made plays in the passing game. On a fake pitch during the first 11-on-11 portion of practice, DE Logan Fano got to Shedeur Sanders quickly to blow up the play. In an 11-on-11 period, DT Elijah Chatman and Whitley breached the pocket and forced Shedeur Sanders to throw the ball away. DT Mason Graham tipped a pass near the line of scrimmage during an 11-on-11 period after Verse forced Watson to step up in the pocket.
