Tottenham Hotspur have announced the departure of goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, who has joined Juventus on loan until the end of the season. The deal also includes an option for the Serie A side to make the move permanent next summer, bringing an end to Vicario's three-year spell in north London. Vicario joined Spurs from Empoli in June 2023 and made 117 appearances for the club, keeping 29 clean sheets. The Italian international earned his first senior cap while playing for Tottenham in March 2024 and played an integral role in the club's Europa League triumph in 2025. His departure now leaves Roberto De Zerbi with a decision to make between promoting Antonin Kinsky, or returning to the transfer market for another goalkeeper. Promotion for Kinsky? Kinsky appears to be the obvious candidate to take over as Tottenham's first-choice goalkeeper. The Czech shot-stopper joined Spurs in January 2025 as the club dealt with a crisis between the sticks. He was initially brought in to provide competition before becoming Vicario's understudy when the Italian returned from injury. The 23-year-old's time in the first team has not been without its difficult moments, however. One of Kinsky's most infamous appearances came during last season's Champions League defeat to Atletico Madrid, when interim manager Igor Tudor substituted him after just 17 minutes. The goalkeeper had made two mistakes leading to Atletico's opening goals and was visibly distressed as he left the pitch. That night will undoubtedly remain a low point, but it should not overshadow what has otherwise been an encouraging start to life in north London. Kinsky's Premier League form was relatively impressive, with De Zerbi showing a willingness to trust the youngster over Vicario when given the opportunity. With Vicario now heading for Turin, Kinsky could finally have the chance to establish himself as Tottenham's long-term number one. Could Kinsky be rivalled? Spurs have already strengthened their goalkeeping department this summer with the signing of Martin Dubravka. The 37-year-old joined on a free transfer after leaving Burnley following their relegation from the Premier League last season. Dubravka brings a significant amount of experience to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, having made 197 Premier League appearances, the majority of which came during his time with Newcastle United. However, his age suggests he is more likely to provide competition and experience rather than become Tottenham's long-term solution. That could leave Kinsky with a clear opportunity. Austin the outside bet Elsewhere, Roberto De Zerbi could turn to academy product Brandon Austin, although that appears to be the less likely option. The 27-year-old has made just one Premier League appearance for Spurs during his career and has generally occupied a role as an understudy. For now, Kinsky appears to be the natural successor to Vicario. Tottenham have already added experience in Dubravka, but the departure of their former number one presents Kinsky with perhaps his biggest opportunity yet. The question is whether Spurs are prepared to put their faith in him.
