The New Orleans Saints got some massively unfortunate news ahead of the 2026 season when it was reported that Jordyn Tyson was going to miss a lot of time.
He has a hamstring issue and will likely miss the first month of the season, if not more, as he recovers. Now, with one of their key wide receivers down for a while, the Saints have turned to free agency to scour the market for some more depth.
According to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, the Saints have brought in former Pittsburgh Steelers and Chicago Bears WR Chase Claypool for a free agent visit, along with veteran journeyman WR Josh Reynolds.
Saints host Chase Claypool, Josh Reynolds on FA visits
"With Jordyn Tyson dealing with a hamstring injury, the Saints worked out veteran WRS Chase Claypool and Josh Reynolds today," Garafolo reports.
The Saints bringing in some veteran receivers for free agent visits shouldn't come as any surprise. They could also check out the trade market for some help as well.
But these two receivers are very interesting players to bring in. Reynolds is a little more boring as a nine-year veteran who's played with six teams in his career, and hasn't been a terrible depth option at times.
The much more polarizing and interesting receiver the Saints brought in is Claypool, the 28-year-old WR who hasn't played a down in the NFL since the 2023 season.
Drafted in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, Claypool has struggled to find his footing in the league. He played for the Steelers in 2020, recording 873 yards and nine touchdowns on 62 receptions and 109 targets.
The next year he had 59 receptions on 105 targets for 860 yards and two touchdowns. He looked like a future star. Then, Claypool was traded to the Bears, where he put up 140 yards in seven weeks in 2022, then just 51 yards in three games in 2023.
He was then traded to the Miami Dolphins, where he played in nine games, catching just four of seven passes for 26 yards during the 2023 season.
Since then, he's not played in the NFL. He signed in 2024 with the Buffalo Bills, but was placed on injured reserve and never suited up for them in the regular season.
Claypool was a very polarizing WR during his playing days, and it's been more than two years since he's actually been a part of an NFL team.
He's a very interesting WR to bring in for a visit. There's no guarantee the Saints sign him, but if they do, he might be one of the more fascinating players to watch down the stretch of the preseason or even just in practices.
