Patriots cut tight end to make room for veteran guard

The Patriots released tight end Mitch Van Vooren to make room for veteran guard Greg Van Roten. Van Vooren, 25, was signed last month. He went undrafted out of St. Norbert in 2025, initially signing with the Seahawks. He also spent time with the Browns last summer. The move leaves the Patriots with Hunter Henry, Eli Raridon, Tanner Arkin, Jack Westover and CJ Dippre at tight end. The Patriots placed tight end Julian Hill on injured reserve before training camp began. Van Vooren played just three offensive snaps in the Patriots’ preseason opener against the Colts, a 13-13 tie. Raridon and Westover led Patriots tight ends in snaps in Thursday’s game. Henry, Raridon and Arkin are the current favorites to make the Patriots’ 53-man roster, though Westover provides positional versatility at fullback, as well.
