ESPN’s Shams Charania said, “I fully stand by my reporting” on the Buss family deciding to sell its Lakers ownership stake to Bob Iger and Joshua Kushner despite being called out by Jeanie Buss’ lawyer in a letter Monday night. Charania, appearing on “The Pat McAfee Show,” said he reported there was a “majority vote, at least four of six necessary to be able to close a transfer as far as the tag along provision.” He said Buss’ lawyer’s assertion that he claimed all six Buss siblings voted to sell “is inaccurate.” Charania laid out what is being debated between Buss and her siblings, noting that the lawyer’s interpretation is that Buss is the “final voice,” while the siblings and their lawyers “believe that’s not how the trust works.” He added if her lawyer is “coming out with a letter like they did last night, it could result in lawsuits.” He noted the five other siblings “have not retracted their votes,” and so “where does Jeanie Buss and her legal team take this” (“The Pat McAfee Show,” 8/18).
