The Green Bay Packers spent a great deal of their offseason investing in their own players. Multiple stars that were drafted by Green Bay were given contract extensions, ensuring that they will remain with the organization for years to come. However, there are other returning players on the Packers roster whose future with the team was put on notice with other decisions the team made. Among those is cornerback Keisean Nixon, who saw Green Bay sign Benjamin St-Juste signed in free agency, and two other defensive backs added via the 2026 NFL Draft. With training camp well under way, Nixon has seen his reps with the defensive starters cut. Brandon Cisse, the Packers’ second round pick, has been getting more and more practice time with the starters. Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur claps back at Keisean Nixon Over the weekend, Nixon was asked about the fact that he is in a competition for the starting job he had last year. The 2025 Pro Bowler responded, “I guess I’m being punished right now, I guess, I don’t know. I don’t really worry about what I’m running in camp, ones or twos. I just keep my process and just compete — for real. “I don’t view myself in no competition. I’ve come here to compete for myself. What they do and who they choose, that’s out of my control. I can only control what I can control.” It is interesting that Nixon does not view himself as part of a competition. He gave up six touchdowns and a 105.1 passer rating when targeted last year, which led many fans to believe he was not competing at all when it mattered. On Tuesday, head coach Matt LaFleur was asked about Nixon’s comments. He did not hold back in his answer either. “He loves making a headline, doesn’t he?” LaFleur said. “The way I look at it is this: I guess our whole team is being punished, because everybody is in competition.” As mentioned, Nixon did not perform well last season despite being named to the Pro Bowl. In fact, his selection is pointed to by many as a reason why the Pro Bowl is a joke now. Everybody is, indeed, competing in training camp. Competing to get better. Some are, of course, competing for jobs; but the fact of the matter is that everyone, even guaranteed starters, are competing. If Nixon does not feel like he is part of a competition… well, that’s kind of the problem.
