Benjamin Nygren has been named in the SPFL Team of the Week. After the World Cup in the summer, the Swede has returned to Celtic in fine form. The Hoops have played three competitive games so far this season, with Nygren starting every one of them. Last season, he scored over 20 goals, and he’s carrying that scoring form into the new campaign. What stands out now, though, is his performances. Nygren could go anonymous in games last season and still pop up with a goal, but his individual performances have risen this season. He’s looking far more influential in games, with his creativity and attacking threat becoming a key part of Celtic’s play. The concern for fans now is keeping him beyond this transfer window. There were a few murmurings that he could be poised to leave this summer, despite signing just a year ago, but, so far, that hasn’t come to anything. And Celtic will be hoping it stays that way. Engels has already departed, and while Celtic have added goals through Duran and Høgh this summer, losing Nygren would be a massive blow for the creative outlet of the team. Celtic have had a great start to the season, and a lot of that has been down to Nygren. His form has given the Hoops another attacking dimension, and keeping him fit and in Glasgow could prove just as important as any further signing before the window closes. He’ll be looking to carry that into the Champions League qualifier against LASK on Wednesday night as the Hoops look to qualify for the Champions League after missing out last term.
