ACC Announces Women’s Soccer Player of Week Honors

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – North Carolina striker Bella Devey was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Week, while Wake Forest defender Sierra Sythe was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Week for ACC Women’s Soccer. Clemson’s Nona Reason and Wake’s Valentina Amaral were named the ACC Co-Goalkeepers of the Week, while Stanford defender London Young was named ACC Freshman of the Week for matches played during the opening week of the regular season.
OFFENSIVE – Bella Devey, Jr., F, North Carolina (Dexter, Michigan)
- Totaled five goals in victories against Fairfield on Friday and Quinnipiac on Sunday.
- Opened the season with two goals in the 4-0 win over Fairfield.
- Became the first ACC player this season to register a hat trick with three goals in an 8-0 triumph over Quinnipiac.
- Currently leads the NCAA with five goals and 10 points.
DEFENSIVE – Sierra Sythe, Jr., D, Wake Forest (Long Beach, California)
- Played the full 180 minutes along the Wake Forest backline that produced a pair of shutouts against No. 18 LSU and South Carolina.
- Helped limit LSU to just five shots on goal in a 2-0 win on Thursday.
- Helped limit South Carolina to just one shot on goal in Sunday’s 3-0 victory.
- Marked the second straight season the Demon Deacons have opened the season with back-to-back clean sheets.
CO-GOALKEEPER – Nona Reason, 5th, GK, Clemson (Noblesville, Indiana)
- Recorded back-to-back shutouts at Auburn and against No. 17 Ohio State to open the season.
- Made four saves to preserve the clean sheet in Thursday’s scoreless draw at Auburn.
- Made four saves for her second shutout of the week in a 0-0 draw against the nationally-ranked Buckeyes.
- Currently leads the ACC with eight saves.
CO-GOALKEEPER – Valentina Amaral, Jr., GK, Wake Forest (Oviedo, Florida)
- Totaled six saves and two clean sheets in a pair of wins over No. 18 LSU and South Carolina last week.
- Made five saves in Thursday’s 2-0 win over the Tigers, the most by an ACC goalkeeper this season.
- Made one stop in Sunday’s 3-0 victory over South Carolina for the 15th shutout of her collegiate career.
FRESHMAN – London Young, Fr., D, Stanford (McKinney, Texas)
- Made her collegiate debut at center back, helping Stanford blank Cal Poly, 1-0.
- Played the full 90 minutes and held the Mustangs to just two shots on goal.
- Helped hold Cal Poly without a shot on target for more than 43 second-half minutes.
Women’s Soccer Notes
- ACC teams earned 20 victories on opening weekend, tied for the most among all conferences.
- ACC teams combined to score 77 goals through the opening week, the most among all conferences.
- ACC teams finished 1-1-2 against Top 25 teams in the opening week of the season.
