Caleb Aekins has spoken of his excitement ahead of Friday night’s trip to face the in-form Leigh Leopards – whilst paying tribute to the continued, loyal support of the Bradford supporters. Bradford’s Number 1 returns to where his life in England began, having joined the then Centurions in 2022 for a successful spell under Adrian Lam – winning the AB Sundecks 1895 Cup and the Betfred Championship, culminating in promotion to Betfred Super League. We caught up with Aekins on a number of topics ahead of the Round 24 fixture… On returning to an old stomping ground… “It’s an exciting prospect, I had a really good season there in 2022 and made some good memories with some good people, so it will be good to get back there and see some familiar faces.” On Leigh’s form head into Friday night… “They’ve started coming on strong, it’s not going to be an easy task but it’s more about us than it is about them at the moment with us building towards these last four games. We’ll be doing what we can throughout the week to be at our best on Friday.” On being ever-present in his first year in Super League this year… “It’s been good, I’m lucky enough to have played every game so far, it’s been a long year but I’ve enjoyed every minute of it and I’ve loved being back full-time with a good bunch of blokes and good staff. I pride myself on being available, I think one of my best abilities is availability. I like to put my hand up to play whenever I can and I am lucky enough to have played every game this season.” On support play and anticipating opportunities… “Kurt’s style is very much promoting the offload and looking to play on the back of it, it’s my job as a full-back to be on the end of those shapes or see where things are going to happen. I like to be on my toes and be in support of those opportunities. On the importance of the Bulls fans making the trip on Friday night… “The fans have been there throughout the season and it really does help, especially at these away games when it can get quite hostile. It means so much to us boys to have the fans there and behind us, especially with some tough results in the last few games, the fans turning up week in week out means a lot to us.
