Lincoln City have completed the signing of midfielder Yunus Konak on a season-long loan from Brentford. The 20-year-old has made 14 senior appearances for the Bees since joining from Turkish Süper Lig side Sivasspor in January 2024, including 10 Premier League appearances.
Konak spent the second half of the 2025/26 campaign on loan at Sky Bet Championship side Oxford United, making 16 appearances for the U’s.
He has just signed a 5-year contract with The Bees, with Brentford Head Coach Keith Andrews saying: “I like Yunus a lot. I’ve seen his development at close quarters, even going back to when I was set-piece coach.
“I really like him as a young man. He came over here not speaking much English, and he’s a really popular member of the squad because he’s all in on Brentford.
“I have a lot of time for him. I’m delighted to get him tied down long term to allow him to go out and continue his development.”
Brentford Director of Football Phil Giles said: “Yunus has earned his new contract based on his performance over the last 12 months.
“He had a very good loan at Oxford where he played well, so we are looking for him to build on that this season with Lincoln, who were very keen for him to join them for the season.
“By signing the contract before he completes the loan move, it demonstrates that we see him as a player who can play regularly for Brentford in the future, which is what we’re all working towards.”
He said: “I’m excited to get started, meet everyone and help the team have a successful season.
“Lincoln City is the right fit for me. I liked everything they have shown me and I’m very happy to be here.
“I’m very aggressive. I love to tackle and I love to fight for the team. I like to give everything on the pitch.
“I really like it when the fans create a good atmosphere in the stadium, and I’m really looking forward to playing in front of our fans because I have been told everything about them.
“I’m really excited to be here, and I can’t wait to meet all the fans. I’ll give everything for the club, 100%, on and off the pitch.”
Jez George said: “Yunus has been our No.1 target all summer to add in this position, having followed his impact at Oxford United in the Championship during the second half of last season. As a No.6, we feel as though all his out-of-possession attributes fit perfectly to our game model and that we can help him to develop some of his other qualities in how we play with the ball. We have massive respect for Brentford, their staff, their methodology and their culture, so we are absolutely delighted to have agreed this loan with them and that they also see us as such a good fit for Yunus.
“I would like to thank Phil (Giles, director of football), Lee (Dykes, technical director) and David (Langridge, loans manager) for their help throughout the process and great credit should go to Joe Hutchinson, our head of recruitment, who made sure that we contacted Brentford and Yunus’ agent earlier than any other club this summer, maintained dialogue throughout, knowing that Yunus would more likely come out towards the end of the window, and worked so hard to enable us to sign him ahead of a lot of interest from far more established Championship clubs and options abroad.”
Reaction on the forum:
Gaz_Imp: “Konak won’t be here to cover. Fact one of him, Ivan or Connor be on bench is a great problem to have, sort we need at this level.”
Rasenimp: “Does seem like a really good fit from what I’m reading now. Wondered if he had played v Ivan but doesn’t look like he was in the squad for the Turkey v Ukraine U21 game!
Edit: also allows us to play three in the centre sometimes, maybe!”
cdhIMP: “On paper, this looks like an unbelievable loan signing. Don’t want to overhype it but could have a huge impact this season.”
