Former TNA star Grado recalls the time he went unpaid for six months before the promotion sent him a sketchy check. During his recent appearance on the My World with Jeff Jarrett podcast, Grado, who worked with TNA Wrestling from 2014 to 2018, shared a story. This was of him receiving a questionable check that nearly got the cops called on him. He recalled going unpaid for several months in the promotion. “So, at TNA, we would get checks. We would turn up to the TVs. This was probably about 2015, so at the time Dixie (Carter) was still in charge. It’s near the end of the Dixie era. So I would get a check, and I would take it home, and I would go to the Bank of Scotland. The woman in the bank would go (grunts), because it would take her about 10 to 15 minutes to do the international checks. She would have to write stuff out, and every time I would come to cash a check, she would go, ‘Oh f**k!'” Grado began. She would go, ‘Can you get the money put in your account?’ I’d say, ‘Look, these yanks, for some reason, they’re still in checks. We still need to get paid in checks. So she hated every time I walked in. “But there was this one time where, and I mean it’s funny, right? Because I signed for TNA in January, right? And in June, Ken Anderson came up to me and went, ‘Hey man, have you been paid?’ And I went, ‘I’ve never been paid. I’ve been here since January. I’ve not been paid once.’ I literally was like, ‘I’ve never been paid,’ and he’s like, ‘What?’ So we managed to get it sorted and stuff like that. Grado recalls getting a sketchy check in the mail “Eventually got back pay. That’s the way it went with TNA. I was enjoying myself, was on holiday. Was having the time of my life. I was still working in the fire brigade back then. So the wrestling for me was going to Orlando, getting the flights paid for me. I couldn’t give a damn if I was getting paid, though. I’m being honest,” he continued. “But there was one time where I hadn’t been paid again for four or five months. I had the guts to speak up, and I’m messaging Bob Ryder (one of TNA’s founders), ‘I’ve not had a check.’ So eventually a check turns up in the mail. I open it up, I look at it, and I went, ‘That doesn’t look right.’ I’m like, ‘What is that?’ Grado says TNA sent him a drawing of a check Speaking further, Grado recalled that TNA sent him what appeared to be a drawing of a check. However, he took it to the bank, thinking it was normal in America. Unfortunately, the bank employee almost called the cops on him after seeing it. “So what it was was literally, it was a check-style paper, but it was a drawing of a check. So all the numbers at the top were all written in Biro (a ballpoint pen). TNA entertainment all written in Biro pen. The amount on it, somebody’s signature, and I went. ‘Alright, okay, that must be just what happens in America.’ So I took it to the Bank of Scotland, and I handed it over, and she went (laughs). “‘Are you having a laugh?’ She looked at me as if I had two heads. She went, ‘What the f**k is this?’ And I’m like, ‘What do you mean?’ She went, ‘That’s a drawing of a check.’ To me, I was thinking, ‘Maybe this is what happens in America.’ They sent me a drawing of a check. I mean, the woman was literally about to call the police on me. And I’m going, I don’t know. This is what they do in America.’ So they drew me a check rather than paying me a full $600,” the former TNA star said.
