Assuming Tucker Kraft’s extension is as done of a deal as everyone seems to think, pretty much every player of consequence is already locked in for next season. Keisean Nixon is the only significant starter (depending what you think of Karl Brooks as both a starter and a significant player) who is currently slated to hit free agency. But other notable names, even if they’re not starters, are scheduled to be free agents, including Darian Kinnard, Luke Musgrave, the aforementioned Karl Brooks, and Carrington Valentine, among others. There are significant decisions to be made there. And that’s not even counting the guys who are under contract for next season, but maybe shouldn’t be — guys like Aaron Banks and Josh Jacobs, just to name two. These, too, are significant decision points and will shape what the Packers are able to do in free agency next spring and beyond. But by and large, the Packers look like they’re in pretty solid shape. They’ve had a couple of solid drafts lately, they have a good core of established veterans, and with a couple of the annual roster tweaks you’d expect from any NFL team trying to contend, they’ll be in the mix for years to come. Whether or not the Packers make an early move, McKinney seems to have been worth the money at this point. Looking to next year and beyond, the statheads think the Packers are in pretty good shape. I don’t know if I’d go so far as to say it’s been a “chaotic” camp, but it hasn’t been 100% smooth sailing either. Given his connections to the game, Murphy is a pretty good pick to teach this class.
