Report means confirmation of exit and another ‘situation vacant’ at West Ham United

It seems this transfer was at the players’ behest, after he asked to leave the club and was subsequently left out of West Ham United’s visit to Turf Moor on Sunday.
Having started West Ham’s Carabao Cup clash the week before, few would have expected Edson Alvarez to be heading for the exit door after it was widely reported that Nuno planned to use him this year and that ‘El Machin‘ had had something of a rethink and was up for the fight.
However from reports today it seems certain that the Mexican International is in the process of sealing an exit from the club he joined in 2023.
According to sportsview.co.uk, a deal is imminent:
“Real Sociedad nearing deal to sign Edson Alvarez from West Ham:
Real Sociedad are close to reaching a full agreement to sign West Ham United defensive midfielder Edson Alvarez, according to transfer reporter Matteo Moretto.
Direct talks between the Spanish club and the 28-year-old Mexican international have progressed significantly in recent days.
Alvarez has demonstrated his commitment to the transfer by agreeing to a significant wage reduction to fit within Real Sociedad’s salary structure. He has also formally requested that West Ham sanction his departure.”
Quite what the deal will be regarding loan or permanent sale aren’t yet published but West Ham are hardly likely to stand in Alvarez’ way if the prospect of getting his still £50,000 a week wages off the books crystallises.
“With personal terms not an issue and Alvarez keen to finalise the move, Real Sociedad and West Ham are working to iron out the final details.”
Without Alvarez, Potts and the injured Tomas Soucek, West Ham will suddenly find themselves dangerously light in resources in defensive midfield: Hopefully something which they will rectify in the last two weeks of the window.
