Exclusive:Returning Doncaster Rovers man 'excited' for new season as he spells out Championship dream An exclusive chat with Rovers striker Alfie May Returning Doncaster Rovers striker Alfie May says "there's no point playing football" unless everyone is aiming for the stars. The centre-forward is back in South Yorkshire after signing on a season-long loan from Huddersfield Town. Back in familiar surroundings, May wants to embrace the ambitions of manager Grant McCann and is targeting the Championship. Whilst the bookmakers might not fancy their chances - Rovers are chalked up at 33/1 to top the table - May has experience of getting promoted out of this division. He helped former club Birmingham to promotion two years ago, but never got the chance to play in the second tier. Now, speaking exclusively to the Free Press, he admits it is an itch he desperately wants to scratch. "If you're not looking to try and be successful, then there's no point playing football. I've played in League One for however many years and I've been promoted to the Championship. Unfortunately, I've never got a chance to play in it and that's football but you should be chomping at the bit to get there. "You should be excited to try and go to that next level. To get to the Championship is hard, yes, but at the start of the year you look at that number one spot and getting promotion. "I'm excited to start the season and see where we end up in 10 months' time." * The full interview with Alfie May will be available to read in our special eight-page season preview supplement, free inside next week's Doncaster Free Press (out Thursday, August 13).
