Although certainly not a perfect performance, nor did it need to be, our Seattle Seahawks played a game a few day ago. Some things went well. Others, not so much. Coach Macdonald held his weekly press conference and layed out clearly what he enjoyed from Saturday’s loss to the Dallas Cowboys, and what he did not. Only thing for him to do really is for the coaching staff to keep preparing the squad for real games that will be here soon enough. Like, sooner than expected. Until that opening gamut against the New England Patriots, practice and self-improvement are the focus. The good: the arm strength was always there, but now his throwing mechanisms have improved vastly. He looks like an actual NFL backup QB when making short to mid range throws. Encouraging. The bad: the game still happens too fast for him. Rarely gets to his 2nd and 3rd reads. Looks indecisive. Still doesn't feel pressure well. Tends to notice pressure by the time someone is already hanging on to his leg. Same issue. Doesn't adjust to unexpected pressures that were not obvious pre snap. Discouraging. But boy is he an athlete. He's like almost three inches taller and a bit heavier than the bulldozer that was Chris Carson. And three steps faster. He's also about as fast and mobile as Jahmyr Gibbs while being 3 inches taller and 25lb heavier. His body could be that of a good LB or like a faster more athletic WR David Moore from our past. But here's the thing. Kaepernick was a guy who never learned to go routinely beyond his second read. So the 49ers had to run an entirely different playbook. Grossly dumbed down as to passing while more nuanced with rollouts and designated QB runs. That's also why the Ravens have lesser versions of Lamar backing him up. Cause the playbook is different. So, unless Milroe really can achieve wonders over the next year, we will have a dilemma. He could work as a QB even with his limitations, given his unique traits, but that playbook would not even remotely resemble anything an offense with Darnold or even Lock would look like. Net net, I foresee a trade to someone like the Ravens, unless Milroe is able to embrace the complexity better. Odds are probably below 50/50 for that. Join the conversation!
