Ross Innes and Adam Davies have stepped down from their roles as Joint Managers of Hinckley AFC with Chris Tullin taking over as the club’s new Manager.
Innes and Davies told the Board of their intention to resign following Saturday’s game against Sherwood Colliery – with Tullin stepping up from his role as first-team coach to take the reins.
Their tenure started with a 10-match unbeaten run last autumn, and they step down having guided the side to an 11th-placed finish last term and with two wins, a draw and two defeats so far this campaign.
In total, they took charge of 46 games, winning 18 of them and scoring 94 goals at a rate better than two a game – including eight at home to Easington Sports last season and seven against GNG Oadby Town. And they ended on a high with last night’s 3-1 win over Blackstones.
Innes and Davies said: “Last night’s performance was exactly what we have been expecting from this group over the last five games. It was the team we have worked hard to create, aggressive, positive and with the instructions to attack teams until the final whistle.
“There have been glimpses of that early doors against good opponents, but last night showed what it looks like when it all comes together.”
Tullin will take charge for the first time with Saturday’s trip to Belper United in the United Counties Premier North, with Adam Cooper re-joining as his assistant. He’s described the appointment as an “honour” and said he thinks there’s more to come from the squad, which he’s hoping to unlock.
He said: “I didn’t feel ready to leave yet. I enjoy this club and the people around it, with its big fanbase, and I believe this team is on the cusp of something really positive.
“I also wanted to make sure there’s some consistency for players who I’ve got a lot of respect for. This is a strong squad that has the capability to push on and when it clicks, which I’m confident it will soon, you’ll see a really strong team.
“I’ll look to implement a possession-based style, we’ll get the ball forward fast and on the floor. Fans want to see attractive football and it will be high risk at times but hopefully with high reward off the back of it.”
Chairman Bryan White added: “The Board felt it was important to maintain continuity at the club and Chris has vast experience and knowledge as a player and coach in local football.
“Having spoken with him, we liked his ideas including his approach to how he wanted us to play and his wish to develop young players alongside more experienced members of the squad.
“We hope all supporters will now get behind the management and players as they aim to move the club forward.”
We’d like to thank Adam and Ross for all their hard work during their time with Hinckley AFC and we wish them the best of luck for the future. We’d also like to wish Chris the best of luck as he takes over as our new manager!
