What's next for the stars of UFC 330?

The UFC was in Philadelphia on Saturday for a solid UFC 330 card that saw two titles on the line. The main event saw Islam Makhachev defending his welterweight title against Ian Machado Garry. The co-main event saw Mackenzie Dern defending her strawweight title against Gillian Robertson. Ultimately, it was Makhachev who won by decision as he dropped Garry in the second round and was able to use his wrestling to control the fight. In the co-main event, Dern dominated Robertson to win a decision to defend her title. Following UFC 330, here is what I think should be next for the fighters involved in the title fights. Islam Makhachev Islam Makhachev defended his welterweight title with ease as he dominated Ian Machado Garry in the main event. Makhachev dropped Garry in the second round with a beautiful head kick and then used his wrestling to control the bout. With the win, Makhachev broke the UFC’s consecutive win streak and could return later this year. The next fight for Makhachev has to be Carlos Prates in what could headline the year-end numbered card or the first numbered card of 2027. Ian Machado Garry Ian Machado Garry had a chance to win the welterweight title, and he looked like he was taking over after a solid third round. Yet, he struggled to stop Makhachev’s wrestling. Garry is back to the drawing board and will likely need a couple of wins to get back to a title shot. A logical next fight for the Irishman is to face the winner of Gabriel Bonfim vs. Sean Brady, which happens in November, so the timeframe works for a Q1 2027 fight. Mackenzie Dern Mackenzie Dern dominated Gillian Robertson in the co-main event of UFC 330 to defend her strawweight title. Dern looked good on the feet and was also able to control Robertson on the mat en route to a lopsided win. Following the win at UFC 330, Dern’s next fight must be against former champ Zhang Weili, who should return to strawweight. Many still consider Weili the champ, so Dern needs to beat her to cement herself as the champ. Gillian Robertson Gillian Robertson struggled in her first title fight, as she seemingly couldn’t get going on the feet and couldn’t do much on the ground. It was a disappointing result for Robertson, who is back to the drawing board. Robertson will need to win a couple of fights to get back to a title shot, especially after how one-sided the fight was. A logical next bout is to face Alexia Thainara, who’s ranked eighth and is 4-0 in the UFC. Thainara deserves a top-ranked opponent, and the winner is likely a win away from a title shot.
