Liverpool continue their pursuit of Bradley Barcola this summer, and journalist Ben Jacobs has provided an interesting update on their potential plan. The Paris Saint-Germain winger is very much the Reds’ No.1 target between now and the end of the summer transfer window, with the saga ongoing for many weeks now. Speaking to talkSPORT [via This Is Anfield], Jacobs said that Liverpool could now look to take a risk and wait for as long as possible to bid for Barcola, in order to sign him on the cheap: “If Liverpool wait and wait and wait, their feeling will be (Bradley) Barcola’s in an untenable position because PSG have ultimately added Ferran Torres, Mika Godts and Maghnes Akliouche. But if they leave it too long, then the window could shut or PSG could decide we’re just going to keep him and wait until 2027. “Alternatively, from Liverpool’s perspective, if they go now and try and do it early, Paris Saint-Germain might turn around and say ‘you know the price’ in the hope that Liverpool pay it out of urgency. “This has got to come to a head one way or the other, but Barcola remains Liverpool’s top target. It just hasn’t been an easy negotiation to date. Liverpool’s entire tactic is around waiting, feeling in control of it, knowing Barcola wants the move, and then hoping the price comes down in the final days of the window.” Are Liverpool taking a risk with Bradley Barcola pursuit? There is certainly plenty of sense in Liverpool taking this approach, as they look to grind PSG down and eventually sign Barcola for cheaper than the whopping £145.3m they are reportedly demanding. There is the risk that the Reds’ stance backfires, though, with the Champions League holders growing impatient and possibly allowing another club to sign him instead. Arsenal have been linked with Barcola, for example, and it would hurt Liverpool to suddenly see them swoop in, but hopefully, it won’t come to that. The Frenchman’s price tag does feel bloated, so the Reds are right to try and snap him up for less, but it is vital that they end up getting the deal over the line, or sign at least one winger instead.
