Torino have been working towards signing Leeds United’s Lucas Perri in recent weeks. Now, they have made decisive progress in the move. Two weeks ago, the transfer was almost done. Soon, doubts began emerging about whether the Italian club would sign the keeper or not. Sport Witness covered how Leeds United were trying to attract an offer from Marseille for Perri. This was causing tension in Turin, even if Torino were still favourites to sign the ex-Lyon player. This approach has now worked and Perri’s transfer is going in the right direction again. Torino’s offer accepted Tuesday’s print edition of Tuttosport explains there’s ‘very little is missing now’ for Perri to join Torino. The player has been close to joining for weeks and Marseille’s inclusion in the race had delayed it. The Ligue 1 side were offering Perri European football, despite that, he has given his word to the Italian club. Pressure from Marseille forced Torino into raising their offer. They put forward a €1m loan fee and an option to buy of €14m. This offer has been accepted by Leeds United and the the race is now done. Perri should arrive for his medical today, with the final details now being put together. Our take: Whites’ stance worked out Through creating an auction, Leeds United have arguably got a great deal. They could pocket as much as €15m from Perri’s permanent transfer. They paid €16m to sign him last summer and the Brazilian had signed a four-year deal. His current value on the Whites’ book is around €12m, which suggests Daniel Farke’s side can now make a capital gain from his transfer. He will be the first-choice at Torino and this should convince Il Toro into signing him permanently. Regular game time is exactly what the 28-year-old needs and the deal should satisfy him too.
