Police VC are keeping tabs on Rwanda international Yves Mutabazi as the club continues to strengthen its squad ahead of the new season, which gets underway on October 16. A source close to the club told Times Sport that Police are exploring the possibility of signing Mutabazi, who has been a free agent since leaving APR VC at the end of last season. The club has already signed Brazilian outside hitter Matheus Bettim, who is expected to add depth and firepower to the attacking department alongside Elphas Makuto. However, Police are still searching for a reliable option in the opposite position, an area that is believed to have contributed to their failure to win the league title last season. Musoni subsequently turned to Ugandan opposite Gideon Angiro and captain Eric Kwizera. The club continued to face challenges in the position, particularly after Kwizera suffered an ankle injury that ruled him out for much of the first leg of the league season. With Police already having three foreign players in their squad — Angiro, setter Brian Melly and Makuto — the club has limited room to recruit another foreign player, making Mutabazi an attractive option. Musoni is understood to be an admirer of Mutabazi and believes the experienced attacker could provide the quality and stability the team needs. Mutabazi, 31, previously played for Kepler VC before joining APR VC, where he spent six months and showed signs of returning to his best form. Known for his powerful serves and attacking precision, Mutabazi remains one of Rwanda’s most experienced players in the position. He is particularly remembered for his standout performances during the 2021 African Volleyball Championship in Kigali, where he was among Rwanda’s key players.
