Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s name was mentioned as a potential sale candidate for weeks, but now things have changed drastically.
Tuttosport (via MilanNews) recall that Loftus-Cheek’s name was always at the top of the list when it came to discussions about exits, both because his contract expires in 2027 and because his performances in recent seasons have been extremely up and down.

Now, however, things have changed: the Englishman has convinced Ruben Amorim and has transformed from a surplus player into a key asset in the Portuguese coach’s plans.
Rejection to renewal
In recent weeks there have been no shortage of expressions of interest in Loftus-Cheek, including one from Frank Lampard’s Coventry City. Yet, Milan rejected the €10m offer the English club had made after Amorim vetoed the former Chelsea player’s departure.
The ex-Sporting CP boss highly values his versatility, as he can be deployed as an attacking midfielder or central midfielder in the 3-4-2-1 system. He may not be a regular starter, but Loftus-Cheek will certainly find plenty of space in the rotation.
At this point, it’s not out of the question that a contract renewal could soon be forthcoming, as his contract expires in June 2027. Initial discussions between the parties have reportedly already taken place, but negotiations will likely get underway in September after the summer window closes.
The Englishman is expected to sign an extension until 2029, although it’s possible the agreement could even extend to 2030. While we wait to see how the renewal negotiations will develop, RLC has overturned his ‘seemingly predetermined fate’.
