Next March, Celtic fans have the chance to learn more about the life of club founder Brother Walfrid with a new play telling his story… Running from 11-14 March 2027, ‘Walfrid – The Founding Father’ will describe Walfrid’s many experiences, punctuated by songs and music. It will take place at Cottier’s in Glasgow’s west end. The play covers all stages of the Irishman’s life, from his childhood in Sligo as Andrew Kerins through to his time in Glasgow and elsewhere as a Marist Brother, most notably helping establish Celtic Football Club. Numerous accounts of Celtic history have shaped the play’s content, including Dr Michael Connolly’s book ‘Walfrid: a life of faith, football and community’ and ‘The Bould Bhoys – glory to their name’ about Celtic’s first league title, which is available to buy here from Celtic Star Books. The show’s writer – Edmund Kelly – is a lifelong Celtic fan, having attended matches since the early 1970s. He has numerous Celtic history links including family hailing from Ballymote, the same place as Walfrid.
