Born in Zell am See in the Austrian state of Salzburg on 18 August 2002, Dedić began his playing career with local club LUV Graz before joining Sturm Graz's Academy at U11 level. After three years at Die Schwoazn's youth set-up, Dedić joined Red Bull Salzburg as a 13-year-old. In the summer of 2019, he signed his first professional contract before helping Salzburg's U19s side reach the UEFA Youth League semi-finals in 2019/20, losing out against eventual champions Real Madrid.
At the tender age of 16, the full-back made his professional debut for Liefering, making 50 appearances in the Austrian second tier as the club secured consecutive top-three finishes.
His bright performances for RB Salzburg's feeder squad resulted in signing a new four-year deal with Die Roten Bullen.
In the 2021/22 season, he gained valuable experience in the Austrian top-flight whilst on loan at Wolfsberger AC, helping the club qualify for the Conference League after a fourth-placed finish as well as reaching the Austrian Cup semi-finals.
Dedić was handed his UEFA Champions League debut for RB Salzburg by current Newcastle head coach Matthias Jaissle in September 2022 and achieved silverware during his maiden season for the first team, winning the Austrian Bundesliga title in 2022/23.
Dedić captained RB Salzburg during the 2023/24 season, wearing the captain's armband in 17 competitive matches as well as skippering the Austrian outfit in three of their six Champions League group stage fixtures.
He was also efficient in front of goal, providing five goals and five assists across all competitions and, in January 2023, extended his contract until the summer of 2027.
In February 2025, the right-back joined Ligue 1 side Olympique de Marseille for the duration of the 2024/25 season before Roberto De Zerbi's men secured a runners-up spot in the French top-flight.
Dedić completed a permanent move to Benfica last summer, ending a ten-year stay at Salzburg. Despite going through the entire league campaign unbeaten, the Portuguese giants could only claim third place, finishing eight points adrift of champions FC Porto.
Dedić also featured at St. James' Park last season in the Champions League, starting in Benfica's 3-0 defeat against Newcastle.
Born in Austria, Dedić has represented Bosnia and Herzegovina throughout numerous age groups, ranging from U16 to senior level.
He received his first senior international call-up in March 2022 for friendly fixtures against Georgia and Luxembourg before making his debut against the latter at the age of 19.
In March, he helped the Dragons gain qualification for this summer's World Cup finals in North America, gaining play-off wins against Wales and Italy, both prevailing via penalty shoot-out success, to book their place at the tournament for the first time since 2014.
Capped 31 times by his country at senior level, Dedić started Bosnia's opening two Group B fixtures against Canada and Switzerland, playing the full game in both encounters, before Bosnia exited the competition at the Round of 32 stage following a 2-0 loss against co-hosts USA.
Dedić, who celebrates his 24th birthday today, is set to become the first Bosnia and Herzegovina international to play for Newcastle United and will be targeting his Magpies debut when welcoming Liverpool to Tyneside for their opening fixture of the 2026/27 Premier League campaign. The Bosnian full-back, who will wear the number 37 shirt for United, said: “It’s a special feeling and a really big honour for me to join Newcastle United. I’m really happy to be here and can’t wait to start playing for the club and the amazing fans.
“Working with Matthias again was a big factor for me. We know each other well, he knows what I can bring on the pitch and I’m really happy to be playing for him again.
“Playing Premier League football at St. James’ Park is going to be really special. Every game feels like a big occasion, with an amazing atmosphere. I’m really excited to get started.”
