Supplied Batinikama and Nadogo were crowned new champions of the Vanua Levu Muslim Sports Association Inter-District Championship (IDC) after both divisions were decided in penalty shootouts at Subrail Park in Labasa last Sunday. Batinikama dethroned defending Super Premier Division champions Seaqaqa with a 4-2 penalty shootout victory, marking their return to the top after last winning the tournament in 2023. In the Premier Division, Nadogo defeated Tadravula 4-2 on penalties to reclaim the title they last won in 2024. Related stories A total of 25 teams competed in the weeklong tournament, with 13 teams in the Premier Division and 12 in the Super Premier Division. Tournament chairperson Aiyub Khan said the association managed to complete the tournament despite numerous challenges. “The Super Premier winner received $3,000, while the Premier winner received $2,000,” Khan said. Batinikama return to the top Batinikama coach Gareth Sahayam said he was pleased to guide the side back to victory after its last tournament triumph in 2023. Sahayam was named Best Coach in the Super Premier Division. Batinikama’s Shoel Khan received the Best Player award, while Feroz Khan was named Best Goalkeeper. Dildar Khan received the Best Manager award. Nadogo reclaim Premier title Nadogo coach Jonas Naceva said he was delighted to help the team reclaim the Premier Division title after three years with the side. “The last time we won this tournament was in 2024 and we thank all the sponsors and fans for their support,” Naceva said. “Big thanks to our players who dedicated their two days before the tournament to prepare for this tournament and sponsors.” Naceva was named Best Coach in the Premier Division. Nadogo’s Mohammed Aftaab Nizam received the Golden Glove award, while Ubadah Bin Khalid was named Best Player of the Tournament. Team manager Nahid Narif Khan received the Best Manager award. The tournament’s major sponsors were Maatuk Motor Spares Pte Limited, M&M Truck Repairs USA and Bula Earthworks.
